Victim Blaming & Facts They Make Up Themselves
I just found this podcast last night and was looking forward to listening to a NW focused podcast. Then I listened to them victim shame the abused wife of Ward Weaver. Multiple times. It was hard to even get through that one episode because of it. I went onto the webpage for the show to get their email so that I could send them a private message about it but their email isn’t listed. What I did see on their site was a reference to one of the hosts’ having a day job that, “allows her to be up close and personal with the newest generation affected by households of abuse and neglect.” That is TERRIFYING since the hosts seem to have no knowledge about the dynamics that make it difficult for a victim to leave an abuser. Their website even promoted an event to benefit the YWCA. That’s great, the YWCA does great things for abuse victims. I suggest the hosts take the class on domestic violence that is offered at the Y. (FYI ladies - The classes in Vancouver are easier to get into than the ones in PDX.) It is a shame, so much potential here. I decided to give them one more chance and listened to the episode on the Green River Killer (Gary Ridgway). This case was solved 18 years ago yet one host is constantly asking questions that the presenting host can’t answer. She consistently responds, “I feel like...” or “I think...” Why? There are ACTUAL FACTUAL ANSWERS. They repeatedly refer to it having taken 14 years to catch Ridgway. I know math can be challenging but 1982 to 2001 is 19 years. The kid he stabbed when he was 16 never told anyone, DNA testing didn’t exist in the 80’s, Malvar was followed on her date by her BF -he did loose the vehicle briefly but was able to locate it not long after then saw that she never exited Ridgway’s house, etc. Try reading a book about your topic, have someone double check your math, learn about DNA testing, etc. Ill informed hosts spreading misinformation, there is nothing I dislike more in a podcast.

I’m a Portland native so these are the cases I’ve grown up on! Diane Downs was my first true crime novel. 😃 You guys are smart, thoughtful, and funny without trying too hard; tough skill set to master. Rock on.
