“Jo Firestone first stole my heart in Shrill, and since then I’ve made a beeline for any project with her name on it. I was a little nervous to start this audiobook/podcast because I rarely enjoy how authors narrate their own work, and I hated the idea of being disappointed by Jo. But fear not picky listeners, because the vocal performance brings her text to life perfectly. I’ve loved getting to know the main character through Firestone’s voice and nimble descriptions - she feels like a whole person who is both instantly familiar yet still mysterious and intriguing. The story never takes itself too seriously, yet it still manages to hook you. It is as easy, refreshing, and nostalgic as a tcby parfait, and I cannot wait to enjoy the next layer!”
