“I love this podcast. Keep listening to it! It’s specific and weird and great. But it makes me sad that most of the names these female / non-binary artists name as influences to their work are men. There’s always the one Patti Smith thrown in the mix with a list of all men:
David Bowie, David Lynch, Miles Davis, Danny Elfman, Jim Jarmusch, Mike Patton, tom waits, James Brown etc etc etc etc
Yes, we grew up as young musicians with mostly these men as role models. Women were often marketed as sex symbols while men were marketed as serious powerhouse artists.
But Please! we need to change the paradigm and dig just a tiny bit deeper to find the courageous and popular and talented women who also influenced us or who influence us Now!
