“First of all- this podcast is amazing and everything I was hoping for. If you are a hard core musical lover hoping that they will discuss more technical aspects of the art form you may be disappointed, although it’s only the first episode and it is, well, Cats.
Two of my best friends and I genuinely LOVE Cats and we all saw it separately when we were around 8-10 years old, so maybe Kaveh is on to something about it appealing to kids. I think you definitely have to really love cats the animal too, not just for the obvious reason but because the two have similar vibes. They both seem indifferent if not hostile to people and live in their own world and hey, if you want to hang out with them cool but you have to do things on their terms. Most people would say they’re boring but some people get an incredible amount of joy from them, especially people who are a little weird and maybe not great with other people. You can never quite explain WHY you like them but they never fail to put a smile on your face. But as much as love Cats I have no idea why the show was such a success either other than Lindsay’s theory that it was being pushed as “high art” and people bought into that because what else could explain why someone would make this musical?”
