Promising Benefits and Propaganda

Description
Namaste, Welcome to SAM-VAD (Together In Conversation), as we begin today ‘let us remember, ‘What we give our Attention to matters.’ Our life’s experience would ultimately amount to whatever we had paid attention to. Attention: is important and most of the times we are indifferent to it. It is as fundamental as food; and we go blundering about, seeking ways to assuage the craving, instead of learning how to provide ourselves with what we need, sensibly and calmly. Once our attention is drawn to the mechanism of why and what we give attention to, it is as if a veil has been stripped off and we become freer in our action and choices. This week I bring to your attention another excerpt which we have titled – Promising Benefits and Propaganda from the book titled ‘Uncharted’ – How to Map the Future Together by Margaret Heffernan. How can we think about the future? What do we need to do – and who do we need to be? In her bold and invigorating new book, Margaret Heffernan explores the individuals, organizations and mindsets that aren’t daunted by uncertainty but seize the challenge of making the future for themselves. Promising Benefits and Propaganda Promising improbable benefits, the propagandists exploit one enormous advantage: ignorance. The future hasn’t happened yet, so we can’t be completely certain that they are wrong. But that’s no reason to swallow whatever we’re told, sold or dazzled by. It’s a good reason to ask better questions. Here is one of the statements attributed to chief of research at Gartner, a technology advisory firm, Daryl Plummer: The forecast that stupefies isn’t helpful, but the one that provokes fresh thinking can be. The point of predictions should not be to surrender to them but to use them to broaden and map your conceptual, imaginative horizons. Don’t fall for them – challenge them. Excerpt from ‘Uncharted’ by Margaret Heffernan I am sure that you will enjoy reading this book; you can buy your copy from the following link: http://www.mheffernan.com/book-uncharted.php        Enjoy reading it with your family, friends and near and dear one’s.
