“This podcast is responsible for teaching me to appreciate superhero comics for the complicated, fascinating art form they are — not just Marvel but also some of DC as well as (especially through Charlotte and Zach’s spinoff Extra Issues) Marvel-superhero-adjacent comics like Watchmen and The Boys.
Zach has taken undeserved flack over his progressive stances on certain issues and his iconoclastic ones on others, but I have to confess to agreeing with him something like 90% of the time — and more importantly it’s Zach’s willingness to offend the fans who consider themselves more knowledgeable that leads to some of the show’s best discussions.
The chemistry among the three cohosts is at this point just fun to listen to: Dave’s encyclopedic knowledge and Charlotte’s academically-infused francophone and generally European insights blend beautifully with Zach’s pushback on received “truths” to create an often surprisingly deep experience, week after week.”
