Validation
Aside from details, your story reads like mine. I also have a mother (and her entire enmeshed family) who is likely ASPD (my cousin had been formally diagnosed as such). They’ve gone after me, and I suffered a psychotic break whereas I’ve had zero mental health issues in the past. My life is in shambles, but I have a wonderful ex husband who is helping me cope (he saw the abuse firsthand and has saved my life by validating my perceptions of severe abuse, bullying, humiliation, etc). Hearing you is like listening to myself—sometimes word for word. Thank you for helping us all, because it’s tough for people to believe moms can go after their children to try and destroy them. There’s little compassion from most.

I applaud the vulnerability of Whitney. However her delivery is impossible to follow. No helpful tips, just disjointed ramblings with odd pauses, sounds like she just woke up. Not worth your time.

What a great podcast. I identify so much with you. Sounds like we have the same sick mom. I am 67 and my miserable mother is still trying dominate me at age 94. I have a special needs child too he is 30 year old. I have to protect him from her.

I grew up with a toxic mother as well and they never change. We are just old enough to recognize it and try to heal from all of the pain....Read full review »
