Kate Dorff; A Brooklyn based musician and singer-songwriter. Kate started playing guitar at the age of 10 when they were determined to learn Taylor Swift's entire discography. They cite Swift’s lyrical storytelling method as a major influence in their own writing. Kate classifies their music under the umbrella of, “simp-like tendencies that inspire melancholic tunes.” In their debut single, “Red Light Room,” Kate employs a string of highly specific memories to tell a story of heartbreak. “Two steps forward, but I fell through the floor of your red light room” - a testament to falling in and out of love with someone who has TikTok lights hanging in their bedroom.
Kate joins My Pop Five to discuss Taylor Swift, Stranger In The Alps by Phoebe Bridgers, The Twilight Movie Soundtracks, TikTok and Guitar Hero. Kate also talks about the importance of being authentic as a musician and their evolving perspectives on songs over time.
