Full of Charm and Intrigue
I wasn’t really looking for another actual play podcast when I stumbled across this, but it hooked me with its charming characters and setting and an interesting storyline, both in terms of the monsters in town and the growth of characters. The cast does an excellent job of making their characters (mostly teens) feel real, keeping the time period and setting present in the narrative (alternate history mid-oughts) both through references and attitude, and using the rule system to enhance their play and not bog it down. I recommend it to anyone, but people familiar with actual play and listeners of One Shot Network shows will find Mystery County Monster Hunters Club familiar enough in tone and approach to be easy to pick up while also unique enough to keep you hooked.

I spend a lot of time driving back and forth from Chicago to my parent’s house and I was always alone before - but now I have a bunch of friends who tell me stories! I laugh out loud every episode. One time I even gasped. I’m invested! Long live Mystery County Monster Hunters!!!
