Brilliant
Kirsty Johnson is one of Aotearoa’s best in investigative journalism & this is another piece of proof of the quality of Kirsty’s work . I feel so much for Sarah & Nellie, & it was a privilege to be alongside Sarah in her search for information about her biological family. In the past I have worked with people who can straight from a psychiatric institution into a care home. This podcast reminded me of some of the people my colleagues & I cared for. This was an insightful & upsetting peek into some of the horrors that people endured. Things have improved a great deal since psychiatric institutions, but not enough, at least in part due to the privatisation of care & the effect of capitalism on people who need any degree of care in communities.

Beautifully presented and such an exploration of characters. This was such an eye opener into what people have suffered in institutions and how far we have come (and not come) in our society. So well done and I’m glad Sarah has some answers and that Nellie has been remembered
