New Abolitionists Radio: Former Prisoner Human Rights Activist Capital X Aims To Abolish The Death Penalty
Listen now
Description
Capital X, a former prison slave who has found his way since leaving the prison plantation is an artist who seeks to abolish the death penalty in the United States. In 2008 he journeyed on a "Walk 4 Life" from New Jersey's capital to the capitol of Texas to appeal to the Texas Governor to follow the lead of New Jersey's Governor and abolish capital punishment in the State of Texas. Texas in 2019 is still executing prisoners. However there is some good news on this front as the SF Chronicle is reporting California Gov. Gavin Newsom is suspending the death penalty in California, calling it discriminatory and immoral, and is granting reprieves to the 737 condemned inmates on the nation’s largest Death Row. “I do not believe that a civilized society can claim to be a leader in the world as long as its government continues to sanction the premeditated and discriminatory execution of its people,” Newsom said in a statement accompanying an executive order, to be issued Wednesday, declaring a moratorium on capital punishment in the state. “The death penalty is inconsistent with our bedrock values and strikes at the very heart of what it means to be a Californian.” Read more. Tonight Capital X will join us in conversation on New Abolitionists Radio. Be sure to support his message by downloading some of his music. Check out his website for concert dates. Join us every Wednesday night for weekly conversations surrounding prison slavery which became lawful in 1865 with the adoption of the 13th Amendment to the United States Constitution which made slavery and involuntary servitude legal as a punishment for crime. The program is a collaborative effort between the non-profit organizations Prison Streetz Talk Ministries and the Black Talk Media Project. It is hosted by Taison McCollum, Mother Khadija, Maxwell Melvins with contributions from the producer Scotty T. Reid.
