New Abolitionists Radio: Former Corrections Officer Supports Voting Rights Restoration For US Prisoners
Listen now
Description
Tonight on NA Radio we will be in conversation with Special Guest speaker Muriel Wallace who is a former State Correctional Officer and is currently the CEO of the non-profit Coming Out Christian Outreach Organization. Sen. Bernie Sanders who is running for the Democratic nomination for President in a field of 20 candidates, announced that he supported restoring voting rights to US citizens incarcerated in the United States. Several of his fellow candidates vying for the DNC nomination have come out against the idea including Sen. Corey Booker, US Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, and Mayor Pete Buttigieg. Sen. Kamala Harris took no side in the issue but rather suggested that a conversation about it should be had. While most of the MSM has seemingly abandoned the discussion, Jeffery Robinson, ACLU Deputy Legal Director and Director of the Trone Center for Justice and Equality published an article titled The Racist Roots of Denying Incarcerated People Their Right to Vote documenting the racist reasons for stripping US citizen's of their rights including their right to vote. CEO Muriel Wallace will share her perspective from her experience as a correctional officer and explain why she feels agrees that prisoners who are US citizens should have their voting rights restored. Show Notes. New Abolitionists Radio is an award-winning weekly radio broadcast and podcast that started in 2012 to bring awareness to legalized slavery and human trafficking in the United States preserved by the 13th Amendment of the US Constitution. It is hosted by former prisoner Taison McCollum, activist Mother Khadija, former prisoner and Grammy-nominated music artist Maxwell Melvins, and Black Talk Radio Network founder Scotty T. Reid.
