Pure Anti-Catholic, Anti-Crusader Propaganda
I’m astounded at how many positive reviews have been given to slanted propaganda Crusader hit piece. Do two minutes of research and you’ll plainly see that Runcimen’s two books are regarded by all(but Holmes) as extremely bias towards the Catholic Crusaders. You can audibly hear how it pains Holmes to have to mention any Crusader victory, but, when he is discussing a Mohammedan triumph he’s as giddy as a school girl. Every Crusader accomplishment is extremely downplayed to a criminal level. The Mohammedan accomplishments are praised to the high heavens. When the Crusaders win a battle it’s just pure luck but when the Mohammedans do, it’s all due to their skill, bravery, strategy….you get the picture. Both Runciman and Holmes also have a fetish for the Byzantines. Again, do a little more research and you’ll see that while the sack of Constantinople was a tragedy, it was the Byzantines who caused it. The treachery that Holmes and Runciman dismiss, is actually the truth and they were backstabbers. Sadly, they brought it on themselves. Holmes’ hatred for Christianity pours out and it’s very obvious to see. While this podcast isn’t as slanderous as the other Crusader podcast by the woman on here(she flat out lies about battle outcomes and events) it’s propaganda. If you want the real story of the Crusades and the role Byzantium played read: Seven Myths of the Crusades by Andrea & Holt, The Crusades of Iron Men and Saints by Harold Lamb, any Crusader book by Jonathan Riley-Smith, even the Muslim accounts are not as bias as Runciman and Holmes! There is a reason why we have the Eternal Anglo meme….

More reviews of Byzantium And The Crusades
I have been listening to this comprehensive series of podcasts from Nick Holmes on the history of the Crusades and Byzantium. Just simply wonderful to listen to. Nick’s narrative is beautifully articulated.

This is a very well done podcast: clear, straightforward and comprehensive. The narrator is insightful in his opening remarks for each episode, and he does an outstanding job of reading the text he has chosen in a way that feels natural and conversational.
