“The great thing about podcasts is the range of subjects and the common availability to many millions everywhere. A Sunday afternoon in London and I'm able to connect easily to the other side of the world. History is everything, it is every second of every life that has existed since the birth of human activity on earth. This series of podcasts on recipients of the VC is but a tiny instant of individual moments in that history, though not insignificant. We all matter in some way, from the minute of your birth, you are an influence in human history. The stories of these men describe their influence on history. You cannot begin to envisage the consequence of one moment of action, the immediate and future effects. This may seem a convoluted review, but for me history creates an infinite source of questions, answers and further research.
In short, listen and learn about men who had to endure terrible personal events that either led to their deaths or be on their mind for the rest of their lives. In those moments of battle, many others were affected. Men died, families grieved, war were won and lost. These men were significant. These stories go far beyond a retelling of exceptional bravery of ordinary men. They say everything about us, the human race and what we are. Thank you ABC for this contribution to our learning.”
