“I used to be an umpire (gasp), hence the podcast handle. I have been on the court with all of you…Steve in Delray, and the Open. I was there on Court 16 when you cramped. Also at the NCAA in Athens, I believe. John, numerous times. Most notably was on Ashe against Giron Sam, quite a few times as well, but you either won by a large margin and the match was over quickly or you lost quickly. Jack, numerous times as a junior and on the tour. I was wondering what were your thoughts on the umpires. Did you ever regret, or thought maybe you went too far after a blow up? Looking at Steve and Jack here. Also Jack, did you know the umpires had an expression for your dance when you were looking for a call. It was called the Jack Sock. You did it on the court with me at Kalamazoo. I almost fell out of the chair laughing.
BTW the “Jack Sock” is make a slack-jawed face with wide eyes, hold your hands out at your side, palms up and shake your shoulders.
I swear Jack did this to me on Court 3, Kalamazoo College…about 10 mins after another umpire demonstrated the dance to me.
I remember the opponent, and why Jack did this dance…he was wrong, BTW.”
