Tanzania to Texas: The Bernard Kamungo Story
Listen now
Description
Taylor digs into an MLS story that needs to be heard to be believed: Bernard Kamungo’s long path to FC Dallas. Taylor speaks with Bernard and his brother, Imani, about their relocation to Texas in 2017, how a $90 tryout changed their lives, and how they supported each other as Bernard realized his lifelong dream.  The Kamungos’ journey began at the Nyarugusu refugee camp in Tanzania, where Bernard passed his days kicking makeshift balls in pickup games against men 10 years older. Imani saw his brother’s immense talent and encouraged Bernard to take a career in soccer seriously—support that followed the brothers 8000 miles to Texas. Taylor is joined by Eric Quill, the former North Texas SC coach and current New Mexico United coach, and Nico Estévez, the FC Dallas coach, to speak about their impressions of the Kamungos and the parts they played in Bernard’s journey to becoming one of the league’s most exciting prospects.
