Old Gods, New Scares
Old Gods of Appalachia had me hooked before the Prologue had finished playing. Being from Appalachia (Knott Co. KY), the stories and setting resonate with how I grew up and the stories I’d hear from my elders. If you’re not from the Appalachian Mountains, you may miss some of the finer points, yet you’ll still enjoy this Lovecraftian feel. If you ARE from the Mountains, you’ll find yourself missing those hills and woods, all the while feeling a sense of dread of what could be in them. Steve Shell has created something I will go ahead and call an Instant Classic. Don’t waste any more time reading these reviews, listen for yourself and find out why this will be your new favorite podcast.

This sort of story is right up my alley. Dark, poignant, eerily relevant, this transports me into a dark version of my childhood Southern escapades. I hope they do the same thing with Ozarks. I’d love to hear some twisted folk tales about Arkansas.
