“I love listening to sailing podcasts. I can’t imagine that iTunes offers a sailing podcast that I have not listened to at least once. 59º North with Andy (and Mia) Schell is the single best of them all. (I also love This Old Boat Newsletter podcast.) Andy does an incredible job of recruiting for interview an amazing diversity of authoritative sailing personalities who have substantive experiences and relevant material to share on almost any sailing topic you can imagine. Andy is smart and experienced enough to know the pertinent questions to ask each of his guests. And (I smile as I say this) he is getting experienced enough with his journalistic voice that he is even learning to resist answering his own questions before allowing his guest the opportunity to reply to them. (The ability to ask a focused and meaningful question of one’s guest, then get out of the way and let them answer it, is a rare quality among hosts. Andy is learning to do that) I have listened to every one of Andy’s podcasts, and I continue to go back to listen to many of them repeatedly. Some of his best are actually recordings of his own presentations, i.e. ‘Mentally Preparing to Go Offshore’ and ‘Solving Problems Offshore’, though I’ve really enjoyed his interviews with the Pardeys, John Harries, and Russ and Laurie of S/V Nexus. I also appreciate Andy’s sincere and usually successful effort to produce his podcasts on a weekly basis and I notice on the rare occasions when he’s late getting them posted. Thanks Andy, and Keep up the great work!”
