“The constant tangents on Punchline’s lack of success really makes the podcast difficult to listen to. Deviating from the subject matter to complain detracts from/stifles the fun and relaxed nature of the podcast. I do really think there’s some great discussion to be had. I’m a big fan of the Thomas Dolby and Jane Child episodes, and have binged the show many times. The hosts are extremely knowledgeable, intellectual and hilariously entertaining, but all of that is constantly overshadowed by Punchline-specific “whataboutism.” I wish I could give it more stars, but there have just been one too many episodes where the actual topic was abandoned in favor of ranting about why Chris’ band should be more successful, and it’s just extremely frustrating, especially for a podcast of this caliber. Frankly, it reeks of bitterness, envy, and misplaced animosity. I had so much hope for this podcast, but the constant whining about not being famous/successful enough feels akin to a little kid throwing a temper tantrum.”
