Pretty great, even if you’re not terribly into RPGs
So, I recently got into roleplaying (Star Wars: Edge of the Empire, really), and in true nerd fashion, started soaking up everything I could find. One Shot popped up one day when I searched for podcasts on Star Wars RPG’ing, and it’s just… great. I have kind of a ridiculous commute, so I listen to a ton of podcasts. One Shot is easily one of my favorites. James, Kat, and all of the guests are just great. James’ passion for roleplaying games is absolutely infectious. Now, I have to give a warning to anyone listening to One Shot: It will make your sessions seem drab and boring. Basically, just about every episode is how every GM wishes their sessions would run. Tons of agreeing and fleshing out the game world, involved, engaged players, and just a great group of people having a blast. That said, I have learned more about roleplaying (and GM’ing) from listening to this podcast than probably any amount of reading/research could have taught me. The companion podcast, Critical Success, is an amazing resource, as well. I just wish it updated more often. If you’re not into RPG’ing, the idea of listening to OTHER people play an RPG sounds a bit ridiculous, I know. Give it a try. It’s totally worth it.
