Ivan Illich
That was a great tour de force of Illich’s ideas. He later in his life went on to consider how our perception was being manipulated by photo and video. Later still, his concern was our understanding of ‘life’. These were deep topics that he nonetheless attempted to dig beneath to get at the foundations of our present-day certainties. By the way, his friends pronounced his name Eevan. I’ve heard some people say that his last book ‘In the Vineyard of the Text’ was one of his best. I’d love to hear someone explain it to me. I couldn’t get into it.
