Still Finding Its Footing
This American Life on the Prairie; a collection stories centered on the population of a single frontiers town. This is a really unique concept and, like the town itself, the podcast is an experiment. Like the first season of most shows, Pleasuretown is still figuring itself out but it has the potential to be great. Similar to podcasts centered on various contributors, some stories are better than others and some voice actors are better than others. I think that as the framework solidifies this podcast is going to be really great. I love the different characters and they do a good job of not being repetitive in theme or plot. The characters are so unique and complex that you get pulled into their tales and look forward to more. Like most ensemble shows you will have favorite members of Pleasuretown. The production tone comes off rather monotone at times; I feel like the energy between stories needs to fluctuate more. Most of the stories have a rather southern gothic tone with an aura of dark humor to them. As the stories are extremely well-written more focus needs to be paid to directing the voice-actors to sound more like a character and less like they are reading journal entries. I plan to stick with this one for a while and see how it grows.

I have really enjoy the show so far. Slightly adult themed with drama and humor. Great character developement and story lines that interweave with each episode. I can really picture the town, its inhabitants and their individual stories in my mind.

Absolutely stunning story telling, a style that is gripping but not stressful, and all gorgeously acted and produced. Easily a recommendation and a podcast I relisten to often.
