“I think I stumbled on this via Marc Dalessio’s blog. In any event, this is the greatest podcast in history. Okay, in my humble view of the world. I totally relate to these two and their guests. I was accepted to the Chicago Art Institute at the age of 16 on the basis of my first painting which the local library purchased. (It was terrible.) I was unable to attend because I was 16. I went instead to a small university in the plains where they told me to not paint that way. I was told to find some sort of schtick with a modern bent and stick with it for the rest of my life—oh, and be sure to paste exculpatory BS artspeak all over it to make it legit.
Suffice to say, I didn’t. But I did not know that there were schools where you could learn how to paint, so I taught myself through books such as the Art Forger’s Handbook and every other book I could find. I also simply experimented and painted. A lot.
When I listen to these podcasts, which I do everyday while I paint, I chortle along with the humor and listen carefully to the thoughtful art criticism and intellectual exploration. I’m fascinated by the tech talk and hang on every word. If you could do this every day of the year, I’d gladly listen. Love you guys and your guests!”
