Thought provoking
I don’t always agree with the host and guests, but they always leave me thinking about aspects of music culture from a perspective I had not yet considered. Yes, John C. can sound like he’s Trying To Be Cool when he forcefully inserts the latest youth slang into his dialog, but the guy at least has a well-considered take on most issues and provokes his guests into a natural debate. Would love to hear more critics from outside the NYC bubble, especially when discussing aspects of music culture from the south.

Crisis of Critique? Def not at the New York Times Popcast. The podcast provides a consistent line of analysis and commentary regarding the pertinent issues of Pop. It tracks the changing paradigm of pop music, gives you some nice end-of-the-year top-x lists, and awards rundowns.
