Position of Neutrality: Dealing with Resentments in Step 4 AA Conquer Resentment Actionable Steps for Healing
Listen now
Description
Join Wayne Giles as he dives into Step 4 of the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous, focusing on how we deal with resentments and begin the action steps of recovery. Wayne reminds us that in dealing with resentments, we set them on paper, listing people, institutions, or principles with which we’re angry. He emphasizes that we often think we can control ourselves—yet we were unable to control our actions when caught in the grips of addiction, so why would we think we can control anything else? Wayne encourages us to let go of the notion that we have control over people, places, or things. Through the Step 4 process, we recognize that trying to control others is futile. Instead, we learn to focus on our part in situations and take ownership of our actions, allowing us to experience growth and healing. The key to this step is understanding that we cannot control others, but we can face our resentments and move forward by focusing on what we can change—our own behavior and responses. This session is a crucial part of the recovery journey, emphasizing personal accountability and the release of old resentments. Wayne ties this discussion back to the teachings of AA and the Interactive Step Experience (ISE), guiding us toward spiritual growth through humility and self-awareness.
