- Combing affirmations with Theatre of the Mind video is simple, easy, and effective.
- This example deals with holiday stress, but it works like magic for rehearsing how to handle difficult situations you expect to be stressful.
- To listen to the entire tele-seminar that includes how beliefs influence our stress response and how to apply 3 stress dissolving techniques, go to www.MindOverStress.us.
- In addition to listening to the entire, “Letting go of Holiday Stress” episode, you can also download the tele-seminar guide that includes the Affirmations and Mind Video Vision steps for the method you’re about to hear in this show recording.
- Let’s join the Affirmation and Mind Movie segment the, “Letting Go of Holiday Stress” tele-seminar to learn this powerful skill.
_________
Setting an Intention to Stay Calm
Affirmations are most effective when they’re set BEFORE an expected or possible stress triggering situation.
* Identify situations (parties, family gatherings, contact with people you dislike, etc.) that you know or expect will show up over the holidays.
* Create a short, clear positive affirmation for each situation. Example, “I choose to remain calm and in control in the presence of ____________”. Write each affirmation down on paper or a card.
* Use a short autogenic training / self-hypnosis process to create a relaxed mind and body. Rehearse the behavior in first person (through your eyes) and third person (see yourself exhibiting your chosen behavior as if watching yourself on TV).
* Make the imagery big, bold, and bright. Add sounds, dialogue, and - if appropriate - other sensory details. Really FEEL the rehearsed experienced.
* Run these mind movies a dozen or more times over two or three days.
* Repeat the verbal affirmations emphasizing different words within the statements. Examples: I choose to remain CALM and in CONTROL in the presence of _______! I CHOOSE to remain calm and in control…!”.
* Review your written affirmations before entering into the situation. Feel confident, calm, and relaxed.
* If a situation is particularly difficult, remind yourself of the affirmation/s and run the mind movies several times until the event is done.
* Give yourself approval for entering into this self-care affirmation process.
