Distressingly out of touch episode
I have been an avid listener to this podcast for several months and have usually found Dan Senior and his guests to be extremely well informed and perceptive. That’s why I was profoundly disappointed in todays podcast, whose guest was A.B. Stoddard. While I understand and share their grave concern and disappointment that Donald Trump will likely be the GOP nominee next year, they sounded like their hair was on fire. True, his continuously narcissistic and abusive rankings are disgusting. And his actions on 1/6 were beyond outrageous and inimical to our constitutional republic, as were his recent remarks about General Miley. However, while in office Trump didn’t weaponize the FBI, Justice Department, IRS and CIA to destroy his opponents. Senor and Stoddard never even mentioned the greater threat to our republic posed by the Biden administration, which was flabbergasting and redolent of the perspectives of an out of touch and willfully blind DC elite. Nor did they mention the increasing evidence of Biden’s personal corruption, which potentially has national security implications if the Chinese, Russians and Ukrainians have proof of this and are holding it over his head. As a Michigan resident, I can also say that their excitement about our governor Gretchen Whitmer as a substitute for Biden next year struck me as naive and ill-informed. While she certainly has her fans here, as well as two victorious campaigns behind her, I suspect that Senor and Stoddard don’t know how dysfunctional the Republican Party is in this state. Her most recent opponent, Tudor Dixon, was a complete novice, a total lightweight and an inept campaigner. Her previous opponent was a lackluster GOP hack who generated no excitement on the stump. Whitmer has governed as a Covid absolutist, who shut down this state during the pandemic, which destroyed many small businesses and wrought havoc with the lives of school age children. She cut a sweetheart deal to bring an EV production facility to our state that would have been run by the Chinese. How’s that for demonstrating an acute understanding of national security? She would be very vulnerable in a general election and I’m frankly surprised that Dan Senor and especially A. B. Stoddard wouldn’t be at least somewhat knowledgeable about Whitmer’s deficiencies. I am willing to write this episode off as an aberration and hope to see the podcast resume its place as one of the go-to podcasts for those of us who are interested in national and international politics.

This podcast is must listening for its thoughtfulness and extraordinary guests. BUT… the title-relevant for a few weeks when the interviews were taking place in Israel- just doesn’t fit. So given the pervasive Delta delta, we need a new name for this post Post Corona world; perhaps: Resilience...Read full review »
