“I usually only listen to the bonus episodes as I’m not that interested in the guests. Usually they feel like a random choice and it’s clear you hardly know much about them. Whenever I do listen to a guest episode, I end up learning more about Jamie’s life than the guests as Jamie has a way to cut off any story and bring it back to himself.
The bonus episodes used to be hilarious but as time has gone on it has become more and more like the Jamie show. Jamie seems to forget that Alex is a co-host and tries to dominate the conversation like he does on Nearly Weds. He is constantly cutting off Alex and talking over his jokes to introduce another segment or bring it back to himself and his wedding. Both Jamie and Alex are hilarious in their own ways and when they’re both chatting equally the results are brilliant but these days it’s very rare and there isn’t that natural flow.
Speaking of natural flow, I find the private caller segment quite uncomfortable to listen to. The stories are usually not that funny when the caller is telling them (would probably be funnier if Jamie/Alex were reading them) and it’s quite awkward as you can tell Jamie and Alex are forcing laughs to make the caller feel good and then the laughs quickly end. I think short voice notes would work better or written messages. I also don’t find the poo stories that amusing anymore. Prefer just general embarrassing moments and bizarre encounters.”
