A Unique and Refreshing Podcast Premise!
While it’s quite young, Psychoanalysis has quickly become a new favourite podcast and I think that it’s a clever concept. Obviously, mental health is important to us all, and 5 months into a pandemic, we’re all experiencing varying levels of stress impacting our mental/emotional well being. The three hosts, Lara, Jenn, and Mike, examine aspects of mental health as they relate to specific horror films. From the introductory episode, I was on board—like many horror fans, I felt traumatized by horror films at a very young age (JAWS, THE FOG, THE ENTITY, etc.), but I thrilled being scared (sleepless nights were a a good trade off for a good, scary horror film!). Psychoanalysis rekindles my retrospection of childhood horror trauma, as they examine mental health topics like anxiety and toxic relationships; we all can relate to these feelings. Listening to the hosts as they examine specific horror films and specific mental health topics is engaging, topical, and funny. I look forward to more “therapy” lol.

I’m not someone who watches a ton of horror movies, but that doesn’t matter. The enthusiasm and expertise of the hosts is extremely welcoming, even if you’re not a huge horror fan. It’s extremely easy to get on board with this thoughtful and funny podcast. Can’t wait for more!

I loved Jenn on the horror virgin. This podcast is mediocre at best. Hardcore pass.
