“Grandpa’a Globe was recommended to us by a fellow mom who travels frequently with her family, like we do. Our kids love it and how each episode focuses a different country.
However, one thing I didn’t realize going into it is that it’s written primarily for a Christian audience, consciously or unwittingly. Meaning, there are at least three different episodes in the first couple seasons that are about Christmas/Bethlehem. And at one point to justify doing another Jesus-themed episode the host (not a character in the show) says something like, “well who doesn’t love Christmas?” That is a surprisingly ethnocentric assumption to make on a show about exploring global cultures.
I hope that as the audience for this show expands, the writer develops more self awareness for their own cultural biases, and incorporates a deeper understanding for what it means to travel and experience the world beyond their own.”
