My new favorite podcast
I discovered Raise Your Hand. Say Yes. because I’m a huge fan and frequent customer of Emily McDowell, and am now binge listening to this podcast. I’m a writer and make my living via words, and even though I’ve written a lot, I still get stymied by mental roadblocks. The range of talented, smart, creative people Tiffany has on the show AND the way she gets them to dig deep into their successes and their mistakes and drills into the details has been invaluable. I especially liked the Jason Zook episode where they discussed that your family is not necessarily who you should be looking to for business advice. But every episode I’ve heard, no matter whether or not the guests do anything related to my field or not, has inspired me. I am working on getting my Crazyfaith on and soaking in all the wonderful examples and advice. I’ve noticed so many through lines in the interviews, about believing in your work and what makes you unique, rather than chasing trends or what you think other people want. Even though a variation of that theme pops up in many of the episodes, each episode conveys it in a different and nuanced way that has made me consider how to apply it to my career differently. Bonus: I’ve discovered so many wonderful writers and artists and creators I’m now following and enjoying their work because of this podcast.

I really enjoy Tiffany’s outlook and she inspires me to get going. She is so positive. She interviews people about pushing themselves out into the world. She also promotes creativity and stepping out of your comfort zone. You need to say no to say yes to your life.
