The Flash is a good movie. But is it also a complete mess? Yes. But that’s not really its fault since the entire DCEU is a complete train wreck. And the special effects look like The Flash had to time travel back to 2001 to get them made (probably because Marvel is hogging all of the good visual effects houses), but as I’ve said before, I don’t really care about that stuff if the story is on point so I gotta admit, I’m kinda shocked, no pun intended.
Remember when I said I was annoyed that the spider-verse sequel didn’t have a story going on and instead just leaned into the whole multiverse thing and HEY LOOK HOW GOOD THE ANIMATION IS with nothing else to say? Yea well I hate that multiverse crap for that exact reason, it makes for a pointlessly confusing and uninteresting story if that IS the story. Well here that’s not the case. The multiverse stuff is just the setting, the backdrop, just as it should be, while the real story is about Barry Allen, AKA the Flash, repeatedly going back in time to correct certain events in his past to repair his life in the present before finally learning to let go of the past and accept that certain things cannot be changed and in fact it is those traumas, tragedies and mistakes that make us who we are. They even managed to rope in his never-before-seen origin story in a fresh and fun way by reliving it with a younger Barry.
GREAT! I can’t believe I’m saying this, but good job DC. If you keep this up I might just leave Marvel and get back in bed with you, you and creepy ass Ezra Miller, I guess.
