Knights of the Zodiac Blue Beetle isn’t the worst movie in the DCEU, but it’s by far the most weary. It’s essentially “superhero fatigue the movie” because there’s nothing we haven’t seen before while ALSO having trouble taking itself seriously while ALSO wishing it was a Marvel movie. A down on his luck fella gets bit by a radioactive spid— Sorry, a blue space scarab burrows into his spine turning him into a reluctant and awkward superhero. Then the evil head of a giant weapons manufacturer steals the secrets of this scarab to make a fleet of men in iron suits called Ironma— sorry again, I mean OMACs. Meanwhile everything feels random and disconnected from everything else that’s happening, as if the script was really long so they just deleted every other scene leading to constant confusion and contradiction of character. Maybe a more serious version of this would’ve worked back at the very outset of the DCEU, but at this point it’s just tired and weak. And also all white people are racist.
