“So glad I happened to follow Sarah on Instagram and discover this podcast! I am new-to-ICU, and the transition from med surg to critical care for me was quite the culture shock. I really felt like a deer in headlights all the time and I struggled to get out of my head, and it showed!
Sarah actually directed me to the episode about pre-shift anxiety when I confided in her about a time I nearly froze when my admit came in coding while I was on orientation. Her podcast helped me to reframe my thoughts, and realize that I can use my body’s physiological response to stress for good: a crashing patient comes in, the extra adrenaline I feel is there to help me help them.
Sarah talks about real patient scenarios that she’s experienced during her time working in the ED, ICU, as the leader of a RRT, and as a wonderful nurse educator. These scenarios help you feel more prepared to understand the physiology of what’s happening with your sick patients, and how to advocate them, all while being compassionate and professional.
Thank you Sarah for being a wonderful leader in this beautiful community and for inspiring others to be as graceful and empathetic as you.
Also, as much as I love your new intro, I have to admit that I miss hearing your dads voice on the intro! I hope you invite him on the podcast sometime 😇”
