#003: Red Sparrow
Listen now
Description
I went into Red Sparrow with all the normal expectations: Jennifer Lawrence running around naked, neck snaps, the whole Russian aesthetic thing, and of course cloak and dagger spy-craft. I was aware of the baggage (from social media) surrounding Jennifer Lawrence's decisions to take part in a film that has moments of extreme sexual violence, but I never felt like it was a gimmick or a cheap storytelling device ala the slaughtering of nude camp counselors in the 80s. Although the run-time is a bit up there (2 hours and 20 minutes) Red Sparrow is worth a watch. It was surprisingly good and I would recommend it to fans of action and...
