“I had no idea that this podcast had even come out until I randomly stumbled upon it in iMDB one day. And upon first listen, I immediately recognised Atypical Artists from the Bright Sessions. And they are a perfect choice for a podcast about a queer character from a urban supernatural show.
This podcast gives so much insight and background into Robin’s character, without trying too hard to reference every moment from the show. And the format is so good, because it feels so natural in its conversational tone, which fits it in well with the tone of the tv series.
The intertextuality of the classic literature is also super fun for me as a massive nerd, and I think it’s cool how the conversations between Mr Hauser and Robin are given some form with each episode referencing a different work. It also situates the podcast well within the setting of a school.
Overall, it’s an awesome bite-sized podcast that is a fun little romp for Stranger Things fans looking to tide themselves over until season 4, dive into Robin’s backstory or even just contemplate the challenges of being queer in a small town in 1980s America as both a teenager and an adult. Couldn’t ask for more, but honestly I should’ve expected such awesome work from Lauren Shippen.”
