The pick me episode made me really think that the pick me girl concept isn’t so much a shifting one, but one that has always been rooted in cultural context. The term might have come from black Twitter but I think she’s the same as the “try hard” we all knew at my white aughts high school. So black twitter’s pick me is different from the pick me described by the girls because in North American black culture where women have to defend against the stereotype of being angry and unapproachable, the concept of being boyish, independent and unfeminine is undesirable.

Not very thoughtful and lots of weirdly ageist riffs to alienate all listeners over 22.

Came here as a fan of the Broey Deschanel youtube channel and was not disappointed! Hannah has been a great addition as well! Really enjoyed the Lindsay Ellis episode, I too had a parasocial relationship with her and was devastated when she stopped making videos :( Keep slaying girlies!!
