Description
This episode of R&T is lecture by Terje Stordalen;  professor of Old Testament exegesis at the University of Oslo since 2006 and honorary doctor at Lund university 2024. Stordalen is an influential and versatile researcher with a clear interdisciplinary interest. In addition to traditional issues associated with the historical, literary, and hermeneutic problem fields of biblical texts, he has devoted his scientific work to cultural research and collective memory. He uses carefully selected social science methods to study ancient texts and cultures, including the perspective of material religion. Stordalen has also been the leader of several interdisciplinary projects and research groups, and his efforts within the OTSEM network, which brings together 150 researchers at 17 universities, have been crucial for the network’s development. Stordalen has been a recurring guest at the Faculty of Theology in Lund for many years. Over the years, he has inspired and enabled many exchanges between Lund University and the University of Oslo, and has also been a good critical friend in connection with quality reviews and research evaluations at the faculty. “Terje Stordalen’s contributions to Old Testament research are significant,” says the Dean of the Faculty of Theology, Professor Stephan Borgehammar. “His research, his collaboration with colleagues in Lund, and his constructive commitment to the development of the Faculty of Theology, we want to acknowledge with this honorary doctorate.” Stordalen received his award at the doctoral promotion in Lund on May 31, 2024 and held the lecture "Biblical Narrative in a Century of Newspapers" on May 30th. The Powerpoint-presentation for the lecture can be found here. ---------------------------------------------- Religion and Theology is produced by Joel Kuhlin for the Center for Theology and Religious Studies. If you have comments or critique of this episode, or any other episodes of R&T, please contact us via the podcast's twitteraccount: @reloteol.  ---------------------------------------------- Thank you to Nous for supplying R&T with music.
