“For over a century the south was a solid democratic cells as the exploited the opportunities provided in the constitution by counting slaves as part of their voting demographics and representatives in Congress when Linda Johnson supported civil rights the Neil Confederates felt betrayed and back George Wallace establishing the Dixiecrat when I failed the plotted to undermine and subvert the republican party ironically a vengeful act against the grand old party of the union (GOP) and President Lincoln that had defeated them in the Civil War
So successful in this project the entire Southern elite & political-economic power brokers managed to bring an overwhelming majority of white southern voters into the republican party.
This left a shattered southern Democratic Party in the hands of a minority of liberals and the black population that now saw it as their party rather than the party of their oppression, as it had been ever since it was used to overthrow the union reconstruction plan that had brought black freedman into the political process to give them rights and opportunities that they would never see again for another century.
It is true that those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat its failures & moreover those who do not also understand geography and social demographics are left ignorant of the present in which they live and helpless to effect a future that unfolds from the threads of the past”
