It was the year 2001. Post, match-fixing debacle Indian cricket team was trying to revive its image and bring back credibility into the game. The team was looking for an opportunity and it came in the form of Border-Gavaskar trophy. But, victory was never guaranteed against a side like Australia especially when they were unbeaten for 15 test matches on the trot. Three test matches were played between India and Australia that year. First in Mumbai, Second in Kolkata and Third in Chennai. This is the story of the second test match played at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
