John Textor is the frontrunner to take over at Everton but has to divest his interest in Crystal Palace first.
The club moved to distance themselves from comments made by prospective new owner on Thursday. But the US billionaire remains in pole position when it comes to being the next owner of the Toffees.
Textor, who holds a 45% shareholding in Crystal Palace, had previously been vocal about wanting to own Everton, and spoke about his desire to purchase the club once again.
On the field, Everton are preparing to face Aston Villa as Premier League football returns following the September international break.
The Blues currently sit bottom of the table on zero points with pressure building on Sean Dyche and his side to pick up their first win.
In Friday’s Royal Blue Podcast, Ian Croll, Joe Thomas and Gavin Buckland discuss and debate the latest news coming out of Goodison Park.
