Sort of cringe-inducing
Interesting story and I appreciate the reporting but way too try-hard music/sound design doesn’t actually add to the story. Also the writing feels glib and like an awkward attempt at being cool (in an early episode, there’s something to the effect of “I know you can’t believe someone who sounds like your grandma is talking about the doobage” yiiiikes). In the episode about the night of the murder, right after the body is discovered, the show takes a weird detour into unnecessarily describing a cop Cheers-like bar, complete with perky music (again, a woman has just been murdered) and then there is the faux PBS Mystery music + thunder when they are describing actual people who were actual suspects in an actual murder. Why do we need to hear Fred talk about a biking trail with spunky music behind it? Why does the host find it so amusing (and expect listeners would find it remarkable) that so many witnesses or people who were part of the story from decades ago have died? It’s all just embarrassingly out of place. The story itself is interesting, the reporting seems solid, and I wish they had just trusted that and not spackled on ineffective “humor” and the cringey sound design.

Ok
This is an incredibly flippant podcast about the murder of a woman witnessed by her young sons. They make a lot of sweeping generalizations and claims that amounts to every cop in Milwaukee was an alcoholic racists misogynist out to get poor Bambi. The producers seem clueless of their biases...Read full review »

I remember parts of this story but just the sensationalized portions: playboy bunny escaping from prison sentenced for killing a cop (this was what I thought). Good to know the whole story and told from a feminist perspective. Truth is usually more interesting than fiction and has more levels to...Read full review »
