Heartbreaking
As someone who watched their mother be manipulated by a narcissist, this is a cautionary tale that really hit home. I fully agree with forgiveness of your mom. It’s worth it. A narcissist feeds off a victim. Without a victim, the narcissist can’t survive. True parasites. That this affected the author’s entire childhood and into adulthood is so heartbreaking. I have now come to the understanding that the victim/mark of the con ends up being the apologist or shill. When it’s your parent, it is mind blowing. In my case, my mother’s trauma was from surviving the death of my father, a house fire and the early descent into dementia. Her critical thinking/survival skills abandoned her and the narcissist con took over.

This was a book I couldn’t stop talking about. Now it’s a podcast that adds a whole new dimension. Pauline Dakin understands sound and story. Can’t wait for the next episode.
