“I don’t agree that being a man has undergone a radical change over the past few years and that the rule book has been torn up. There has always been a diverse range of masculinities. I studied the topic at university back in the 90s, and people were saying exactly the same thing and talking about the ‘crisis in masculinity’. I even remember taking part in a focus group being asked questions about whether feminism had gone ‘too far’. I don’t think there has ever been a time when masculinity was a fixed concept. That’s my issue with this. Maybe there was a ‘peak bloke’ time once, but even with lad culture in the 90s, it was mostly media driven. Rant over. Good effort.”
