Restorative Practice
My first podcast! I have walked away with lots of thoughts such as ‘ What does our behaviour policy really say about us as a school?’ I pondered on some of the situations I have dealt with throughout my career and how I have changed. I deal with behavioural challenges a lot differently now and could relate to the restorative practice techniques shared. Children communicate in different ways. Working in an area of high deprivation and seeing first hand the troubles children carry and additional needs they may have makes me more determined to support them. I want to enable them to cope with conflict and understand their emotions. We have been working with Simon periodically to improve behaviour in our school. His knowledge is incredible. More schools should think about the behaviour in their school and really look at how it is dealt with. All children should be seen as individuals, but how many practitioners really think like this? Simon has enabled me to see children differently and not see them as a failure or exclusion. I will certainly be working with my staff to change our culture.
