“in a Time Starved of Bravery
As reviewer noted below, it is a platform for The Guest.
Therefore, if you have a prior interest in the topic, the show can be okay, with no thanks to Dr Shermer
That is the problem
Last straw was his fawning, highly credulous presentation of the ungrateful Baroness with a plan.
A generous plan she hopes to impose on all the peoples of the world. For their own good, of course.
Dr. Shermer was a coward to let her trash the FREE education she received in America, including a sub-par STATE college, before she escaped to London for a proper education (and a proper fake accent, it seems)
He SHOULD have asked:
But how do you rate the free education you received after seeking refuge in America compared to
the education, or whatever you would have received, in Egypt, from which you fled??
THAT’s the real comparison.
In reality, she was a refugee from Egypt. The free and safe education she received, no matter how inadequate she judges it to have been,
must and can only IN REALITY
be compared to another reality:
that is, the education, if any,
she left behind in Egypt,
given her particular circumstances
of being a girl and
being from a family dangerously out-of-favor with some powerful rulers,
as she and her family qualified as refugees.
THAT conversation never happens,
and Dr. Shermer betrayed his heralded skepticism rather than
risk controversy by even noting
the critique embedded in
the fascinating origin story of his guest
was based neither in science nor in reality
tl:dr
Insulting, bashing and heaping shame on the US and its citizens,
as compared to, to, to
oh NO ACTUAL COUNTRY,
NO REAL PEOPLE,
NO SOCIETY THAT EVER EXISTED
IN ALL OF HUMAN HISTORY,
but as compared to
the most elaborately imagined UTOPIA
from the wildest fever dream
of some privileged, powerful elite,
e.g. a baroness with a book
THIS trope is now an outrage, well past its sell by date.
It cannot be indulged any more.
It must be called out every single time:
COMPARED TO WHAT??
But Dr. Shermer . . . :-(”
