“The opening commercial for the Great Courses Plus and it’s focus on the 1% of Americans that owned slaves almost 200 years ago is dumbfounding. There are literally active slave (labor and sexual) trades happening in Africa and Asia right now. It’s so virtuous that Michael informs us that slavery is bad. Maybe a more comprehensive course on the words history of slavery being that it was practically ubiquitous amongst all cultures. Maybe a focus on Latin America’s slave that paralleled America’s except it was twice the size. Maybe the Arab slave trade of Europeans and how America had to fight a war to end it. How about a class on all the slaves Mohammad owned?!?! I expect better from a podcast that calls itself science salon.”
