So close—and yet....
An intriguing bombshell of an idea hamstrung by poor stylistic delivery choices. Rather than the much-loved co-host chemistry-and-banter format that we’ve all come to love and appreciate in podcasts, we get two hosts literally reading their way through the entire podcast (with zero interaction--are they even in the same room?), with voicing and background sound effects that wouldn’t be out of place for an after-hours History Channel expose, the kind where they try to freak you out (and inflate their source material) by relying on a few repeated dramatic tropes. The idea here is fantastic--it sells itself! With a more natural, hosts-as-guides type delivery, it could rock! The only limitation I see is that, as is well-stated at the beginning, it’s hard to deliver reliable material when so much information out there about these societies verges on apocryphal. I hope the delivery format is re-considered.

Superb but very creepy.

With these hosts I’ve come to expect a gripping story even if I can’t name the writer and producer 👍
