“I really enjoyed the first book and even signed up for the self-healers circle. I was going through a difficult time having recently lost my dad and I wanted to heal from a myriad of trauma. I blamed my parents for all of my challenges. To their face. I just wanted them to validate my experience, but of course they weren’t able to because they weren’t on their own ‘self-healing journey’. None of the hosts are parents yet they talk as if they are parenting experts. They are (very) wealthy white women who we are led to believe have suffered a lifetime of complex personal trauma. I do not believe that what they refer to is ‘trauma’. Every single person in this life encounters some kind of struggle and it does not always come to back to the kind of parenting we received. There has to be more to this short life than ‘reparenting ourselves’. We are each born with a set of genetics, some of us are neurodiverse, and some of us have mental health conditions that are NOT caused by our parents. I have stopped picking apart every aspect of my parents - and my own parenting. I feel so much better. I became obsessive about the potential impact of every parenting action/words on my children. We all do our best with the resources we have and although the slogans and Insta posts by the hosts might serve to validate - do they really do much else? The hosts seem dysregulated frequently (I often wonder if my settings are off because the speech is so incredibly fast and heightened) yet listeners are encouraged to follow their advice on emotional regulation…”
