201. The David Ortiz Shooting
Listen now
Description
In what was shocking to his many fans, former Red Sox star David Ortiz was shot at a club Sunday in Santo Domingo and underwent emergency surgery to repair damage done by the bullet to both his intestines and his liver. He was stabilized and then flown to Boston and taken by ambulance, with police escort, to Massachusetts General Hospital. In this episode, former MLB Security Agent and Investigator, 30+ police vet Eddie Dominguez outlines his investigations and reveals what he learned about Ortiz’s associates during his playing career. No insinuation is inferred that any of his past dealings lead to his being shot, but it does outline a pattern of behavior and his involvement with shady characters. The episode also explains how all of this occurred while Bud Selig and his successor Rob Manfred looked the other way. These details are part of the stories told in the book Baseball Cop. Dominguez wrote the book with investigative reporters Christian Red and Teri Thompson, both of whom are also part of this episode. The book and the stories from it was featured in Episode 171. Baseball Cop with all three authors back in November, 2018.
